The theory is studied that the possible person responsible for its execution is Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, head of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel, because just a few days before Lagunas had shared a video on social networks in which he publicly challenged the powerful drug trafficker.

El Pirata de Culiacán had become famous for two years, when he published a video in which he appeared consuming a large amount of alcohol and fell passed out immediately afterwards. Since then, he began regularly sharing similar videos, where he appeared drunk or drugged, posing with women, luxury cars or weapons. Due to his popularity on social media he was invited to appear in the videos of various band music artists.

Upon learning of his death, Beto Sierra, an influencer who supported him in his career, wrote this comment on his Instagram page: “You lived life very quickly, at just 17 years old, it was not 1 or 2 times that we talked that You will calm down, you will stop the alcohol. You were living life very fast… but you never paid attention and I don't judge you, only you know what you were doing”.
