At 37, his body was found lifeless and with several bullet wounds in a car in a remote area of the dangerous state of Hidalgo. This is pointed out by the Spanish newspaper El País, a piece of information that also includes the PEOPLE magazine.
Police are having trouble finding details and factual information as there are no witnesses or evidence from which to draw conclusions. The question is whether he was killed at the scene or elsewhere and then left there lifeless.
A spokesperson for the Netflix team has made a statement to PEOPLE magazine as soon as they learn of the sad news. "We are aware of the death of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a highly respected location manager and whose family we send our heartfelt condolences." The investigation is ongoing but at the moment there is no more data to clarify it.
According to the Variety publication, Hidalgo has the highest number of murders in Mexico. In July there were 182 reported homicide cases, an average of 12.2 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.
