Romano van der Dussen, a Dutch citizen who lived in Malaga, Spain, and in 2003 was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for the rape of three women despite the fact that there was no DNA evidence linking him to those crimes, he just react to the conviction of the real culprit, indicating that if the authorities had investigated these first crimes well, more deaths, such as that of the young British singer Sally Anne Bowman in 2005, would have been avoided.

On Friday a London court added two life sentences to Mark Dixie, the true culprit in the violations that were charged against Van der Dussen. These two convictions add to the 34 years he had already been sentenced in 2008, when he was found guilty of the rape and death of Bowman, whom he stabbed and, while dying, raped.

Asked for his opinion on these two new sentences, the Dutchman commented: "He ruined my life and if the Spanish police had done their job, Sally Anne would be alive today."

Among all the things that Dixie took from the "innocent prisoner" is the opportunity to see his daughter grow up: "My daughter was only 3 years old and I have not seen her since," said Van der Dussen, according to The Sun. "His mother believed that I was innocent at first, but then she changed her mind when they found me guilty."

It also pains him to remember that his mother died while he was serving that time in a cell and never found out that he managed to prove his innocence. In summary, when studying the enormous injustice he had to live through, he said: “They took my whole life. I will never get those years back."
