A Tulsa, Oklahoma mother was sentenced to 25 years in prison for child neglect after her 8-month-old baby drowned in a bucket of dirty water.

According to People, Heather Freeman, 27, was sentenced to spend the first 15 years behind bars, with credit for the time she has already served. She could then serve the next 10 years on probation.

Local channel News 6 reported last March that Freeman had been crying out for help for his baby boy, Jaxon Annuschat, who was unconscious and drenched.

The woman said that, after feeding him, she had placed him on her bed and she had fallen asleep. When she woke up, he was drowning in the mop bucket of dirty water.

Authorities found his version dubious as they said it was difficult for such a young child to make his way to a bucket of water and climb on it.

On the other hand, that station reported that the mother had tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine use and that doctors also discovered traces of methamphetamine in her baby's body. Medical studies indicated that the little creature had suffered serious brain injuries and concluded that she drowned.

This was not the first time that the accused had tested positive for drug use. When she gave birth, doctors reported that she had been under the influence of marijuana.

Freedman also has three more children, who are in the custody of that city's Department of Human Services.
