El Chapo's Lawyer Talks About The Boss's Wife

The lawyer for Joaquín el Chapo Guzmán applauded the statements of Kate del Castillo in which he revealed that it was with Sean Penn with whom he had sexual relations, after long trying to link the actress with the drug trafficker.

"He came to cover many mouths. He came to destroy that romantic novel [between Kate and El Chapo],”said lawyer R efugio Rodríguez in an exclusive interview with Despierta América (Univision) on Tuesday.

Rodríguez, who was aware during the conversations in which the famous clandestine meeting between El Chapo and the two actors was conceived, assured that the meeting was exclusively professional. "Although I saw him practically daily, I never knew of a personal claim or beyond what was the professional aspect," he stressed.

Beyond the possible consequences that this meeting could have had in the capture of the then fugitive head of the Sinaloa cartel, the lawyer pointed out that the person most affected by what happened at that meeting was the wife Guzmán Loera, Emma Coronel Aispuro.

“She is a woman of great integrity, despite being a young woman, a great serenity. But she is human and must be suffering a lot. You put yourself in her place,”he said.

Rodríguez indicated that after almost a year of the drug trafficker's extradition to the United States and having been denied family visits, it seems that his client will finally be able to see his wife.

He also criticized the conditions of isolation in which the Mexican capo remains in the federal detention center in New York where he is being held pending trial. “Segregation causes you psychological torture. It is to undermine a man little by little and the worst of criminals has the right to a fair trial,”he said.

He also revealed that he will try to reach an agreement with the production of El Chapo (Univision and Netflix) to provide truthful data to the new season of the series.
