Edgar Mendoza, 32, of Guatemalan origin, is accused of having sexually abused a 6-year-old girl, whom he attacked while sleeping in his home in the city of Trenton, the capital of the state of New Jersey.
As reported by the Daily News through its online site, Mendoza, who resides in the United States illegally, was found in the little girl's bed by her father.
On September 19 at around 1:30 am, the pedophile would have entered the house where the girl lives with her family. Realizing that the light in her daughter's room was on, the father moved to the place where the little girl slept to make sure everything was fine. What he never expected was to come across a criminal assaulting his baby.
The rapist immediately fled through a window of the house, jumping from the second floor and then continuing his escape on foot. The girl's father made an emergency call to the authorities and they managed to arrest the suspect using the physical description provided by the victim's shocked parent.
Information on the case adds that the aggressor is currently in the custody of the authorities of Mercer County, New Jersey, facing charges of aggravated assault and putting at risk the integrity of a minor, among others.
"Because of my situation, that I do not have papers and the charges I face, it is better that I remain in custody," the criminal was reported to have said during questioning, according to Fox News.
