Two teenagers who had come to the United States months ago from Central America were arrested in connection with a sadistic sexual assault that occurred in the middle of the day and in the middle of a crowded high school in Maryland.

Jose O. Montaño, 17, and Henry E. Sánchez Milián, 18, have been accused since last Friday of raping and sodomizing a 14-year-old girl at the Rockville high school.

The assault occurred last Thursday after the teenagers allegedly asked the young woman to have sex in one of the hallways of the academic institution and she refused.

According to the victim's account, around 9:00 am she was approached by the suspects, who began to walk with her and after asking her for a hug, they spanked her and asked her to have sex. Refusing, they dragged her to a school bathroom where they took turns raping and sodomizing her, covering her mouth so that she didn't make a noise every time someone entered the toilet.

After the attack, they accompanied her to class, where she later revealed what had happened to school authorities.

The agents arrested Montaño, born in El Salvador, and Sánchez Milián, from Guatemala, in the vicinity of the school. In their initial statements, they denied the accusations, later changing their version and saying, through a translator, that the sexual act had been by mutual agreement.

Investigators found the girl's blood and DNA samples and now wonder how no one noticed the horrible incident that occurred in the middle of the morning in a building full of students and teachers.

According to the WJLA channel in Washington, DC, both subjects will be tried as adults for the seriousness of the crime and remain in the custody of the authorities, fearing that they will flee. Each faces up to three life sentences.

"These are very serious charges, which carry a life sentence," Montgomery County State Attorney Ramon Korionoff said of the case.

According to The Washington Post, Sánchez Milián was detained last August by the Texas Border Patrol for illegally entering the country and was released with the obligation to appear before an immigration judge. He was waiting for that hearing when the rape occurred.

As for Montaño, the immigration authorities did not offer details to the newspaper because he was a minor.
