The dramatic rescue of a 12-year-old girl who was trapped in the ruins of her school after the earthquake in Mexico has captivated the attention of the world that continues in the hope that the minor will come out alive.
On Wednesday around 9:00 am local time, rescuers made contact with the girl who was communicating by means of blows in the ruins of what was the Enrique Rebsamen School, located south of Mexico City. Miraculously, the girl has not screamed, has not cried or despaired, according to those who have been able to have contact with her.
Immediately, an enormous team supervised by the Mexican Navy mobilized, which at full speed and in an extremely cautious manner has dedicated itself to removing debris in order to free the minor. According to reports from the newspaper El Universal, the girl is trapped under a marble table in what was her English room.
They were members of the rescue team of the Topos de Tlatelolco, specialized in this type of disaster, who were able to speak to the girl for the first time. One of them, named Javier, assured that the girl responded to the name of Frida Sofía, without her identity having been confirmed so far.
Little Frida, reported the Moles, claimed to be accompanied by two other children, although it is unknown if they remain alive. "Until now we know that at least one girl is alive," José Luis Vergara, admiral of the Mexican Navy, told CNN.
The rescue of the minor, which already takes more than 36 hours, has been complicated because according to experts in charge of the rescue, there is a large earthenware on the site where the girl is and it is feared that the removal will cause a collapse.
The rain fell on Wednesday night over the Mexican capital where the rescue continued until the wee hours of the morning. At around 6:00 am local time, elements of the Navy ordered the eviction of the area to secure the building that looks very flimsy.
As for the minor's family, Aurelio Nuño, secretary of Public Education in the country, assured that so far no relative of the minor has appeared.
Until 10:26 a.m. EST, rescuers' fists continued to rise indicating silence at the scene from the ongoing operation.
