The unusual images in the video below show the moment when a nurse from Salt Lake, Utah, was violently arrested at the hospital where she worked … And all just for doing her job.
In the video, which was recorded on July 26 but until now has been released, Alex Wubbels appears explaining to a police officer that, due to the regulations of the University of Utah Hospital, she cannot extract a blood test from his patient who is unconscious.
The health worker read the hospital's regulations to the police, explaining the only three circumstances in which blood can be drawn from a patient: with a digital arrest warrant, that he has previously consented to it, or that he is under arrest. None of those things is happening. "I'm just trying to do what I'm supposed to do," Wubbels says calmly.
The officer wanted blood samples to document an accident in which a truck driver was severely burned in a head-on collision with a vehicle fleeing police in Cache County. The driver of the fleeing vehicle died, but the truck driver was in a comatose state when he arrived at the hospital.
Then Detective Jeff Payne rushes over to the nurse and practically drags her out of the hospital while she yells, "I haven't done anything wrong!" Other hospital representatives try to reason with the irate officer, explaining that she is only obeying the rules of her job, but he wife, while she asks, "Why is he so angry?"
Speaking to Dessert News, the nurse said she feels betrayed and very upset: “I am a health worker. The only job I have to (do) is keep my patients safe.” She also explained why she doesn't take a blood test so lightly: “Blood is your blood. That is your property. And when a patient arrives in a critical condition, that blood is extremely important and I cannot take it lightly."
Yesterday the courageous nurse gave a press conference to ask for better police training and to stop what she called "harassment" of medical personnel.
And while Payne was assigned to another police department, every time an investigation of this case is being conducted, his assaulted assured that he has not thought for the moment to sue the Utah police: "Right now, I believe in the goodness of society "He indicated and assured that first he plans to give them an opportunity to re-educate the department.
