Colorado Couple Accused Of Killing Their Baby

John Ostrander, 21, and Donica Mirabal, 23, face first-degree murder charges for the death of their son Zayden, a 6-week-old baby.

The couple was arrested last Monday and will remain in jail without bail until they appear before the judge on September 14, according to People.

The medical examiner determined that the baby died as a result of the parents' negligence and carelessness.

The arrest came after an exhaustive investigation that lasted six months and began on the day the police found the lifeless baby in one of the bedrooms in the couple's apartment. One of the paramedics who answered the call stated that Zayden was underweight and even looked like he was taken from the Auschwitz concentration camp. "He had no muscle tone," he said.

According to Mirabal, her baby's health was declining day after day after she was born. She also confessed that she smoked marijuana repeatedly during her pregnancy, that the baby felt sticky and cold a few days before dying, and that she only opened her mouth without making a sound.

When he answered the question of why he did not take him to the hospital, he indicated that he had no connection with his son and that Ostrander - who declared himself the breadwinner - advised him to wait one more day.
