Recently his name has grabbed the headlines of the media around the world, since the controversial leader was facing criminal proceedings against him, accused of having sexually abused two of his followers in 2002.

As reported on the BBC online site, the judicial process against the Rahim Singh had unleashed since last Friday a wave of protests in the cities of Panchkula and Sirsa by his followers, who have so far left a balance of 38 dead, more than 200 wounded and around 1,000 people arrested.

This Monday, an Indian court imposed a 20-year prison sentence against the Indian guru, a notice that was released to him in the prison he is holding, since the authorities did not want to transfer him from the place, due to the tense situation that is lived in the surroundings of the penitentiary enclosure.

Although thousands of his supporters have refrained from joining the protests, authorities fear that the news of the sentence would encourage many more to take to the streets, which is why the Haryana state decided to impose an indefinite curfew to control the excesses that are lived in various parts of the country.
