In the dark, locked up for 15 hours and in the overwhelming heat of the Texas desert. This is how the undocumented people who died in a trailer discovered this Sunday in the parking lot of a Walmart in San Antonio spent their last moments, a crime that has left a balance of 10 victims and dozens of wounded.
Gradually, survivors have recounted what happened between Saturday night and Sunday morning inside the 18-axle trailer that reportedly carried more than 100 people. Immigrants traveled in crowds, without ventilation or air conditioning, and at some point in the odyssey they were helped by a sinister figure: the powerful Zetas cartel, which for years has spread terror in Mexican lands.
According to a person whom the Department of Homeland Security has identified as JMM-J, the journey began in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes, and after walking in the desert and changing vehicles, he and other immigrants boarded the truck in a place of Texas.
