A man serving as a sports assistant at a high school in the state of Florida faces charges for more than 40 allegations of child sexual abuse against him.

Charlie Mabern Hamrick, 54, was arrested last week in an article published on the People magazine online site. According to a press conference offered by Escambia County Police, it was revealed that the man had been harassing minors at least since 1997.

Details provided by David Morgan, chief of the police department in charge of the investigation, in the last hours, eight new victims of the sexual predator have been identified.

Hamrick was taking advantage of his position as a karate instructor and assistant football coach at Tate High School in the city of Pensacola, in addition to his work as youth pastor of two local churches, to harass his young victims.

"They are perfect locations if you have that kind of thinking … Pedophiles come in different shapes and sizes," Morgan noted in his latest remarks on the disturbing case. "We are interviewing those victims, taking their reports under oath and sending them to the prosecutor," she added.

Speaking to the publication, Malcolm Thomas, superintendent of Escambia County Schools, reportedly said that Hamrick was one of many volunteers working in the education system.

"We hired dozens of people to help with soccer teams, since they have over 100 kids and help is needed to supervise them," said Thomas. “He was just one of many volunteers who help the team. You assume that they are good people and that they are doing the right thing,”he added.
