Theodore William Symonds, 50, has been arrested for alleged child abuse and child pornography in the Dominican Republic. The US citizen, who resides in the state of Florida, remains in a Puerto Plata jail after a Dominican court sentenced him to three months of preventive detention while his case is investigated.
Prosecutor Osvaldo Bonilla stated that Symonds will be tried for sexual exploitation of minors and human trafficking, according to the newspaper El Nuevo Herald.
The prosecution reported that Symonds sexually abused 13- and 14-year-old girls, recording them in pornographic videos for profit. They also revealed that at least one of these girls became pregnant and had to undergo an abortion.
Symonds was arrested over the weekend while he was with a 13-year-old girl in his apartment in the tourist area of Sosúa, north of the capital of the Dominican Republic.
