Chicago police are searching for those responsible for raping a 15-year-old girl in front of the camera, while they were conducting a Facebook Live session that was followed by at least 40 users, none of whom reported what was happening.
The attack registered last weekend turns into a new criminal incident broadcast live on the popular social platform.
According to the AP, the police learned of what happened when the mother of the victim, whose name was not revealed because she was a minor, approached local police superintendent, Eddie Johnson, on Monday with photos in the hand of images on Facebook and asking for help for his missing daughter.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the crime was committed on the east side of town, in the Lawndale sector.
Johnson immediately dispatched an investigation into the events and ordered the video be deactivated. The teenager was found Tuesday, after which she claimed to know at least one of her attackers.
The investigations seem complicated, according to TIME magazine, because in order to identify the witnesses of the video and obtain more clues, a summons against Facebook would have to be obtained and "prove links to criminal activity." Pornography charges may also apply if someone downloaded the images to your computer.
