Doctor Accused Of Sexual Abuse

Argentine justice on Thursday ordered preventive detention for anesthetist Gerardo Billiris for a case of sexual abuse, which is added to another process for attempted murder.

In the case of sexual abuse, the victim would have recognized him after seeing him in the news for the accusation he faces for allegedly hitting the 21-year-old María Eugenia Belén Torres on January 31, a case that has shocked to Argentine society.

Torres revealed in an interview that he consumed crack with Billiris when he visited him in his apartment in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Suddenly, she explained, the anesthesiologist "started hitting her with her hands and then with her feet, very hard", telling her that he wanted to kill her.

According to the young woman, fortunately after asking for help, someone, probably a neighbor, came to her rescue, since she does not remember all the facts very well.

The notoriety that the Torres case generated allowed a 23-year-old model to present a new accusation against the doctor, whom he accused of having abused her in 2012 with two more men, the exactor and public relations officer Juan Martín Mercado, 43 years, and the son of a renowned insurance operator in that country, Cristopher Martín Rosenthal Verdaguer, 26.

The judge in charge of the case considered that Billiris, Mercado and Rosenthal are the authors of an act of “sexual abuse with carnal access” of which a model was the victim in 2012, while Martín Mercado was awarded the same crime in another similar accusation.

Investigators believe Billiris befriended the women by luring them with the job offer, eventually drugging and abusing them.

Billiris was the coordinator of the pediatrics group within the anesthesiology specialty of the Central Military Hospital of Argentina, where it is found out if the doctor had taken the drugs he gave to Torres from there.
