Police authorities in several states have just deactivated the Amber alert to find Aylín Sofía Hernández, who was abducted by her father last week in Bridgeport, Connecticut, after allegedly murdering her mother. A few hours ago, the Pennsylvania authorities just arrested him in that state.

Earlier this morning, a police cruiser on Interstate 99 near College Township, Pennsylvania, recognized the suspect, Oscar Hernandez, and tried to stop him, but he fled and, in his attempt, caused a dramatic accident. He was promptly arrested and taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. The girl and two police officers suffered minor injuries.

On Friday of last week, an Amber alert was issued to search for the 6-year-old girl and her 39-year-old father, after authorities were alerted to the murder of the girl's mother, in the early morning hours. In that crime, he would also have wounded a friend of hers whom, according to The NY newspaper, he had stabbed about 14 times.

Connecticut police authorities had said, as they began their search, that the girl was traveling with her father in a rented, late-model Hyundai Sonata that had been seen on Jennings Street in the Bronx, New York.

Her escape sparked a multi-state search, which culminated a few hours ago, when the suspect was captured some 316 miles from Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, and the girl was recovered safely.
