Maryanne and Tommy Pilling are celebrating their 22nd wedding anniversary. This couple has had to go through different challenges because they both live with Down syndrome. The duo, who met at a help center for people with learning difficulties, dated for over a year when Tommy asked Maryanne to marry him with a toy ring.
A few months later, the couple said 'yes' in July 1995. "They love each other, respect each other, and are completely honest," Maryanne's sister Lindi Newman told our sister magazine People.
But not everyone agreed with the couple's decision to marry as they had detractors. Fortunately, 22 years later, Tommy, 59, and Maryanne, 45, have shown that their relationship is stronger than ever.
“My wedding was the best day of my life. I was surprised when Tommy proposed it to me, but I didn't have to think twice before saying yes, 'Maryanne told The Express. "Tommy and I never argued," he added. “I love my husband very much. He is my best friend."
