Dominique Moceanu Talks About Case Of Sexual Abuse Of Olympic Gymnasts

After three former members of the Olympic gymnastics team revealed to have been sexual victims of the renowned physician Larry Nassar, the legend of this discipline Dominique Moceanu, expressed that the "culture" of the United States Gymnastics Federation helps "these atrocities occur"

In an interview for the 60 Minutes (CBS) program, Jamie Dantzscher, Jeannette Antolin and Jessica Howard claimed that Dr. Nassar abused adolescents since 1990 at the prestigious Karolyi Ranch training center outside Houston, Texas.

In their terrifying revelations, the former athletes said that during alleged medical procedures with Nassar, to improve and prevent athletes' health problems, he repeatedly inserted fingers into their vagina and rectum for long periods of time.

"I have tremendous admiration for the gymnasts who have bravely come out to share their painful stories," begins Moceanu, the 1996 Atlanta Olympic champion and a member of the so-called "magnificent 7".

"I personally was not assaulted by Dr. Nassar. But I have first-hand knowledge of how culture is created to make these atrocities happen; after years of suffering from other forms of physical, emotional and neglect abuse under the Karolyis, in addition to having been excluded and belittled by the USAG (USA Gymnastics) when I spoke, "added the 35-year-old former athlete, who in the past expressed being a victim of mistreatment by her coaches Bela and Martha Karolyi.

"Gymnastics is a beautiful sport and its young athletes deserve to practice it and perform it in a safe environment," Dominique concluded.
