A month after the mysterious murder of baby Sherling Camacho in the Bronx, her 5-year-old brother was separated from his parents.

The lawyer for Katherine Camacho, the mother of the three-month-old, has revealed details of the difficult situation in the little girl's home after the tragedy.

The lawyer Jessica Cuadrado explained that because the victim's brother is one of the suspects in the baby's death and because he has shown "violent" behavior, he has been removed from his parents.

"The child is no longer with the family," Cuadrado told People en Español. "He has been living for a week now in a crowded Children's Services Administration (ACS) center."

"This is the place where they keep the children [with pending cases] until they find a place to go," Cuadrado explained about the reason the child is outside of his home. "At the moment there are no homes in the reception system that can receive it."

Regarding the idea of placing the child in the care of close relatives, Cuadrado explained: "They have ignored our requests to place the child with other relatives."

The situation within the Camacho family is very complex. On the one hand, the father - Manuel Camacho, 28, born in the Dominican Republic - is suspected of the crime along with his son.

On the other hand, the mother has suddenly lost her two offspring, in different and equally dramatic ways. Now, she has to face the tough legal process of clarifying the death of her youngest daughter.

“They are not criminal charges, they are abuse charges. There are ramifications, but there is no jail in family court,”Cuadrado explained about the process that is followed in family court for the death of the minor, which official sources have confirmed to People en Español, is a homicide.

"With her son … she has found it difficult to [think] that he is a suspect," Cuadrado said. "They have moved her a couple of times for her behavior," she says of the minor who has undergone medical evaluations for her behavior. "It could well be that the child's behavior is because she has witnessed and is replicating violence."
