President-elect Donald Trump assured that he will comply with one of his government's proposals: build a dividing wall on the southern border of the United States and that Mexico, whose government and citizens declared himself a fan, will end up paying for it.

We are going to build the wall. I could wait a year and a half until we finish the negotiations with Mexico, which will start immediately as soon as he takes office, but I don't want to wait,”said the magnate on Wednesday at his first press conference after his victory at the polls.

Trump, who will begin his term as president on January 20, only hopes that his team prepares the project and obtains the latest necessary approvals from Congress to build the wall, even though initially it will have to be paid by the American taxpayer.

"I don't feel like waiting a year or a year and a half," said the new US president, adding that Mexico will reimburse and cover the costs of the wall "in one way or another."

"Either through a tax or a payment - I doubt they will make a payment - but [Mexico] will reimburse us," he insisted.

Trump acknowledged that this project, one of his main campaign promises, has many detractors.

"We are going to build it and the people will go crazy," he continued. "Everyone will cheer and when I ask: 'who is going to pay for the wall?' people will shout 'Mexico!'”

The president-elect stressed that the measure is not against Mexicans or their government, whom he described as "great."

I don't blame them for what happened. I don't blame them for taking advantage of the United States,”he clarified.

The swearing-in ceremony in which outgoing President Barack Obama, who gave his last speech last night, will hand Trump the United States presidency on January 20.
