Frank Serpa, a Venezuelan man who pretended to have cancer to earn money, was arrested on Wednesday by the Spanish authorities. Serpa raised $ 12,000 to allegedly start cancer treatment in Houston.
It was in 2014 that Serpa came to Spain and created a campaign on social networks to help him pay for his alleged medical expenses. Everything was fine, until Serpa suffered pneumonia and in the hospital he had to say that it was a lie that he suffered from cancer.
A journalist who helped him carry out his campaign discovered the deception and reported it to the authorities.
The Venezuelan will face justice for the crimes of documentary falsehood and fraud. At the moment the Venezuelan is detained and will give his statement to the authorities.
According to information from the El Nuevo Herald newspaper, this is not the only case of fraud that has been seen in Spain, since recently a family created a fund to ask for help for their daughter, but they are being investigated since apparently all the money they raised it was intended for his own benefit.
