A 14-year-old Argentine boy was shot Saturday when, apparently, his grandfather, identified only as Enrique, tried to defend a neighbor who was being mugged.

According to the Argentine newspaper El Clarín, the incident could have originated when two women were walking through a neighborhood in the city of Buenos Aires and two men who were riding a motorcycle stole the wallet from one of them.

The crime was reportedly observed by a 64-year-old driver, who was traveling with his 14-year-old grandson. The man allegedly tried to "lock up" the wrongdoers and one of them shot his grandson, Brian Aguianco, directly in the head.

A neighbor who saw what happened said that "the thieves waited for the car to pass and one of them, without getting off, shot him." He also commented that the shots would have been at least two.

After the shooting, the bereaved grandfather stopped his vehicle and they immediately called the emergency services.

Doctors say the young man is brain dead, but his father, Fernando Aguianco, turned his grief on Facebook where he wrote: “Son, don't put your arms down now, please daddy. I know that you are fighting it and that you are going to get ahead, because you are a very strong kid and you have your whole life ahead to enjoy. I love you alive."
