When we were looking for more information about San Miguel de Allende weeks before traveling there to do the Alejandra Espinoza photo shoot for our September edition, we discovered that in addition to her incredible colonial architecture, she was also known for the incredible designer shops Latinos whose spaces contrast with the age of the buildings and the rustic appearance of its streets.

Úrsula Carranza, director of fashion and beauty for People en español, had the opportunity to visit some of these establishments and was fascinated by everything she found. Check out some of their favorite stores below.

Recess San Miguel

A prestigious brand that has found a niche and its maximum inspiration in this small town, it has one of the most elegant and visited boutiques in the area. Located in one of the historic cobbled streets of this town, Recreo San Miguel offers classic and timeless pieces with a modern touch, inspired by the Mexican serape or poncho. As described by Julia Sloan, creative director of the brand, the pieces are comfortable, easy to use, versatile and perfect for traveling.

Laura Cantú's boutique

The jewelry designer, whose pieces have been worn by personalities such as Alejandro Fernández, Mijares and Juanes, has a very cool and cozy space in the heart of the town. There you can find many of the pieces by the Mexican designer such as striking metal necklaces, mixed with earth elements and vintage pieces, details that make them unique. In addition, the Cantú collection also includes rings, bracelets and earrings. This should be a mandatory stop if you visit this magical place.

Dôce 18 Concept House

This is one of the most exciting, modern and unique shopping places in all of San Miguel. Here you can find art, fashion, food, gastronomy and even lodging in one place. In this space, also known as Casa Cohen and dating from the 18th century, the past merges with the present, and the traditional with the contemporary, making it a place worth visiting.

Postal Code

This is another of the concept stores that you find inside the traditional and old buildings of the town. Here you find three modern and exclusive boutiques, whose architecture and design will leave you breathless. Of course, many of the exquisite pieces you find at Casa Armida, -the home accessories store- La Colektiva Hoja Santa-clothing store- and Elisheva & Constance -jewelry- are from Mexican designers and artists. Here you also find a restaurant and a bar, making this an ideal place to awaken all your senses.

Without a doubt, San Miguel de Allende is a paradise that everyone should know.
