After doing an interview on Telemundo in Miami last June as part of his collaborations with the network, the actor and journalist Willy Martin suddenly concluded that he had to end a secret he had kept for a long time. "I said, 'I want to get married.' I have many years with [my partner]. It is a beautiful relationship, of support, solidarity, camaraderie,”says the 35-year-old Venezuelan about his courtship with his compatriot Luis Luyando, who is his manager. "We have nine years together. I want to be honest with all the people who follow me."

That is why in this exclusive interview with People en Español, Martin has decided for the first time to speak publicly about his sexuality. “At first I was afraid, sorry to speak publicly because I didn't know how the public was going to take it. I didn't know how this would affect my career,”confesses the also producer, who recently won an Emmy for his Willypedia TV program on Mega TV. “I worked for many years for a children's audience, I thought that talking about my private life was going to limit me a lot or [they were going to see] me differently, but over the years I felt that it is not something I have to hide, it is not something To feel ashamed, I want to be honest with all the people who support me and, why not, with those who don't support me too.”

Martin and Luyando are planning to get married this Saturday in Miami surrounded by their loved ones. "There will be 120 guests. My family comes from Arabia, Spain, Venezuela, it will be a beautiful day to celebrate love and to have a great time,”she says. “I want [my story] to serve as a demonstration that we can all be happy regardless of what we do with our lives. The only thing that matters is not harming the person next to us”.

Just to avoid having to hide his relationship with his life partner anymore, Martin finally decided to take the step of telling his truth. “Suddenly we were going to a party and each one had to stand in different corners when taking a photo, so that they would not see us one side of the other. I did it to take care of my career”, he remembers sadly. “I think this is what motivates me, the fact of being at home and not being able to [hang] a story [on Instagram] and to see that he is in the background or a photo of the two in a frame. That got me tired.” In his opinion, love should not be hidden. "No one has to feel fear or pain or shame for what they feel, love is for the brave."
