The debut of Lin-Manuel Miranda on stage in Puerto Rico with the acclaimed Hamilton has been briefly overshadowed by a contingency of family health. Her mother, Mrs. Luz Towns Miranda, was admitted to a San Juan clinic to undergo emergency surgery.

The artist born in New York was the one who made the news known early on Tuesday through a tweet where he exclaimed: “Over there I ask you for a prayer for my mom who had appendix surgery [in Puerto Rico]. He is already recovering,”said the 39-year-old singer-songwriter.

Later, Miranda issued a new tweet to report the conditions of her 67-year-old mother. “My mom is back home and tweeting non sequiturs again. Thanks for all your prayers!”

Luz Towns Miranda is a renowned Puerto Rican psychologist who in 2017 was chosen as one of People en Español's “25 Most Powerful Women”.

In his more than 30 years of work in this field, he has helped firefighters, children in need of adoption and low-income families in clinics in the South Bronx. "I've always liked being able to make a difference," he told People en Español.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is in Puerto Rico to star in the staging of his acclaimed play based on the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of the Fathers of the Fatherland. The staging of the protagonist of Mary Poppins Returns will take place for three weeks and her intention is to promote local tourism that was affected by the passage of Hurricane Maria, in 2017.
