The classic moment of the beauty queen crowned and hugging a huge bouquet of flowers is a popular icon that symbolizes only one thing: Miss Universe.
But before such a singular moment occurs in the long-awaited beauty pageant, which this year is held in Atlanta, many things happen behind the scenes.
Here Gabriel Rivera-Barraza, an expert in fashion and beauty who was sworn in the contest in 2013 tells us what really happens behind the scenes at the festival and what to expect in the final this Sunday when the current queen, Catriona Gray (from the Philippines) deliver crown and scepter to his successor.

1 Is there or is there no rivalry between the contestants?
Behind the scenes, there is actually a healthy competition where the girls support each other and the final is coming.
Before, the personality and beauty of the contestants were judged. What do judges now look for in the participants?
At the end of the day perfection in all the girl has to cause a sensation when entering an event or a sight trip that is the best representation of the organization.
What surprised you the most about the contest?
Work and preparation to win that precious crown. It is truly arduous.
They say that the crown of the Miss Universe 2019 costs 100 million. What was the greatest luxury that you saw backstage?
The production, the setting and the great team of Miss Universe left me very impressed and fascinated. As a team and as an organization.
The final of the Miss Universe 2019 will be broadcast live from the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, this Sunday, December 8 at 7:00 pm EST, on FOX and Telemundo.
