The 2016 Miss Universe gala was held this Sunday. Miss France, Iris Mittenaere, was crowned as the new representative of Miss Universe 2016.

To kick off the gala, former Miss Universe Pia Wurzbach introduced herself to the public thanking Steve Harvey, the driver who returned after his embarrassing mistake in 2015 when he named Ariadna Gutierrez as the new Miss Universe - for a couple of minutes - to then say he was wrong about the name. "Thank you for making me the most popular Miss Universe," said Wurzbach. To which Harvey replied, "Thank you for making me the most popular presenter of a Miss Universe."

The first candidate to go to the 13 finalists was Miss Kenya, the queens that followed, represented Indonesia, the United States, Haiti, Thailand, France and Canada.

The first Latin American countries to be named were Miss Mexico, followed by Miss Peru, Miss Colombia, Panama, Brazil.

Among the Latin American finalists, Harvey paused to highlight Miss Colombia, Andrea Tovar, and ask her how her country felt towards him, after stripping Gutierrez of the crown.

"Well, they hate you a little," Tovar said with a laugh. "I forgive you, and in the name of my country, we know that to err is human."

More than 86 countries gathered live from the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines. Among the three finalists were, Miss Colombia, Miss France and Miss Haiti, France winning the crown.
