An Arizona mother was arrested on charges of child abuse and driving under the influence of allegedly running over her own 15-year-old daughter.

According to the Associated Press news agency, authorities have confirmed that Jennifer Coppedge, 38, is also accused of endangering her life and that of the young woman, as well as other serious charges.

The young woman assured the police that her mother picked her up on Saturday, notably drunk, so she decided to jump out of the vehicle due to her mother's refusal to let her get off. It was then that the vehicle Coppedge was driving allegedly passed over the minor's leg.

In the car, in addition to the teenager, were two other children of the accused: a 12-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl.

According to People, authorities consider that there is no evidence that the vehicle had passed over the minor. "The injuries the daughter sustained are consistent with the statement that she fell out of the car," a police spokesperson told People.

Police reported that the mother has a breathalyzer installed in her car that forces her to measure her blood alcohol level and prevents her from starting the vehicle if she tests positive.

Police told the Associated Press that the mother forced her son to blow on the breathalyzer so he could start the car.

According to prison department documents, the defendant was found guilty in 2007 of driving under the influence of alcohol and served a short prison term before being released on parole.
