A Michigan school is in the eye of the hurricane after an eight-year-old girl was banned from taking the annual school photo because she wore hair extensions.

The principal of the Jackson County Paragon Charter Academy is defending his decision to reject the girl Marian Scott, who when she was singled out and removed from the group of boys who would appear in the portrait, cried, confirms WILX, an affiliate of CNN in the state.

"It is very disturbing," cried the girl's father, Doug Scott, who said that when his daughter was forbidden to take the photo and was pointed out because of its red extensions, she began to cry in front of all her companions.

"This was unnecessary, they didn't even tell us," Scott exclaimed. "Marian did not leave the house, she did not want to leave the house to see who was doing the extensions for her. No. We were the ones who put them in our home and in no way did we think this would happen."

Ben Kriesch, campus principal, said students who dye their hair or violate the rules have a one-week period to correct the violation. The school's rulebook states that the hair color of its students must be the same shade as their natural hair in order to take a photo at school.

As explained, the school sent an email establishing the guidelines for the photo that would be taken the following week, a message that Marian's parents claim not to have received.

"If they had called us to say 'come for your daughter … there is a problem, we need you to change her, it is not allowed' … that would have been fine, but they did not call us," says the father indignantly. "They let her stay at school."

For now the parents of the minor have decided to remove her from classes until the communication channels with the school are improved. As soon as. the photo, the girl will take the photo in a new session on November 12.
