The father of a 4-month-old baby who was found dead in his malnourished rocking chair and covered in worms will spend the rest of his days in prison.

This was determined by the Chicksaw County, Iowa authorities when sentencing Zachary Cohen, 29, for the cruel death of her son Sterling Kohen, which occurred in August 2017.

The boy was discovered by paramedics on August 30 after receiving a call from the boy's family reporting his death. In the 911 call, the baby's mother said she had fed him and that he was "fine", then she checked it again and "had passed away."

According to multiple reports, the baby had been wearing the same dirty diaper for about 9 or 14 days and when they found him, he was so malnourished that he weighed only 7 pounds, that is, almost the same as a newborn. According to the coroner, the boy died of malnutrition and dehydration, as well as an infection caused by E.coli bacteria.

"[The father] was aware of everything that was going on and chose to do nothing," said Denise Timmins, Iowa attorney general, during the hearing in New Hampton.

According to the authorities, the minor's final days were pure cruelty, as he spent them locked in a room with their windows covered and without ventilation, which attracted flies.

Both Koehn and his wife, and the father of the minor, 21-year-old Cheyanne Harris, have been in prison since August 2017. On November 2 of that year, he was officially charged with first-degree murder and endangering the life of a younger because the victim's sister, 2 years old, and who is safe and sound, also lived in the family home.

Harris is also charged with murder and is now awaiting trial.
