A terrible tragedy has covered a family in Tampa, Florida following the discovery of the body of a 48-year-old university professor who allegedly killed his 3-year-old daughter and then committed suicide.

The horrible discovery was made when the Temple Terrace police came to the home of the academic, who in life answered to the name of Ayhan Aytes. Laurel Friedman, wife of the deceased, was the one who alerted the police after not having any news of his ex who had their mutual daughter Ela in their care that day.

When police arrived at the apartment located at 11859 Skylake Place they discovered the body of a lifeless father and daughter.

Although the home of the death has not yet been officially confirmed by the Hillsborough County Coroner's Office, it was determined that the girl died before the father, which assumes that he killed her and then committed suicide.

Aytes was originally from Turkey and lived there with his ex-wife until a couple of years ago when the country's socioeconomic instability forced them to move to Tampa. According to People, the deceased married Friedman in 2012 but they divorced last January. At the conclusion of this procedure, the couple obtained joint custody of their daughter.

The deceased was a visiting professor at the University of South Florida affiliated with the Zimmerman School of Studies for Advertising and Mass Communications, and although his name still appeared on the site of the academic institution, sources told Bay News 9 that his contract had ended in last may.

"Every time a child is involved in a crime … it breaks your heart," Laurie Hayes, a police spokeswoman, told the WFLA station.

"Our family is devastated by the loss of our beloved Ela," the mother's family said in a statement sent to the local press. "Now we need time for the duel and we ask that they grant us privacy."
