Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, announced that his company will launch an online dating service soon.
"We have more than 200 million single users, so clearly there is something we can do here," said the 33-year-old businessman during the company's recent annual conference to present its new projects.
Although many eyebrows could be raised among users of the social network -since many do not want details of their love or sentimental life to be seen by friends or family-, the conference ensured that the service will work privately and nothing will be visible on the personal Facebook page.
Users will have the possibility to create a specific profile for the service and will never receive suggestions to meet or have an appointment with someone who is part of their list of friends on Facebook. Which will surely avoid more than one embarrassing moment.
For the experts, with this initiative Facebook will become a direct competitor of applications such as Tinder, Match, OKCupid and Bumble. Of course, the social network will have in its favor having more than 1,300 million users around the world.
Despite the fact that several of the companies that provide online dating services have been excited about what Facebook can bring to their industry, one of the managers of Match was not so warm when referring to the news. Come on (Facebook), come in. The water is warm. Your product will be perfect for relations between the United States and Russia, said Joey Levin, president of the company, in a clear reference to the scandal that the social network has faced since Donald Trump was elected as first president.
As CNN revealed through a report from its online site, this new effort by Zuckerberg is due to recent efforts the company is making to make so-called millennials spend more time on the platform. A specific date for the launch of the service has not yet been revealed.
