Parkland, Florida residents are appalled at the arrest of a couple of subjects who were caught stealing objects and stuffed animals from the memorial in tribute to the victims of Marjory Stoneman Highschool, which occurred on February 14.

Michael Shawn Kennedy, 37, and Kara O'Neil, 40, were arrested Sunday by Broward County Police after allegedly stealing teddy bears, plates, and other items deposited in honor of the 17 victims of the massacre perpetrated by Nikolas Cruz, 19 years old.

Witnesses watched Kennedy and O'Neil rip objects from the bars that surround the college campus and where people have been gradually depositing thousands of various objects to remember the fallen.

"The subjects did not have permission or authorization to remove the effects or damage to the monument to the dead," said the report of their arrest, issued by the Broward police. "The subjects were at the monument at an unreasonable hour and maliciously attempted to damage the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School monument."

According to NBC Miami, Kennedy appeared in court on Monday and chose to legally represent himself. The judge set his bond at $ 1,000 and ordered him to stay away from school, but until Tuesday afternoon he was still behind bars.

For his part, O'Neil - who is born in New York - also remains in a cell on a $ 1,000 bond.
