Surely you have eaten the popular Cheetos "Flaming Hot". However, it is highly unlikely that you know they were created by a Hispanic.
Richard Montañez had been working as a “janitor” or maintenance employee of the company since 1976. In 1990, when witnessing a factory failure, the “cheetos” left without the distinctive orange color, Montañez took them home and ventured to create a new flavor, explains a note from Univision. The intrepid employee added chili peppers.
So Montañez decided to present the idea to the director of the factory. What motivated him to do it? Univision indicates that the businessman today recalled a video of Roger Enrico, president of the corporation Frito Lay, who urged employees to act as owners of the company, motivate themselves and get involved.
In this way, this son of Mexican immigrants - who taught him to work from a young age in the fields in California - requested a meeting with the factory boss and dressed in his best clothes to make the presentation, Univision reports.
This is how the idea of the “Flaming Hot Cheetos” was born. Yes, the concept was created by a brave Hispanic who was not afraid to speak to the company's chief boss and present his promising idea.
Univision indicates that by 2010, "Flaming Hot Cheetos" would lead the company to a yearly annual worldwide sale. Fox Searchlight plans to make a movie inspired by its history according to Variety, Univision review. Richard Montañez took a risk, changed his life and that of many Cheetos consumers.
