The Central University of Michigan has been the scene of a shooting in which two people lost their lives. This was confirmed by authorities at the higher education institution located in Mount Pleasant this morning.
"CMU police confirm that two individuals died this morning from gunshots at Campbell Hall [located] on campus," it was said in a tweet posted on the university's official account at 10:53 am, time. local. “The deceased are not students and the police believe that the situation started as a domestic (sic) situation. There is no additional information at the moment; the subject remains at large”.
The university confirmed that the suspect goes by the name of Eric Davis Jr.. He is a 19-year-old teenager wearing mustard yellow jeans and a blue hoodie. He is considered "dangerous" and is armed. According to the same source, the local police ask the public to take precautions "and to take refuge" while locating the subject.
The shooting occurred around 10:43 am, in the aforementioned Campbell Hall, in one of the bedrooms located on the fourth floor. According to Jennifer Verleger, superintendent of Mount Pleasant Public Schools, the university is in "secured mode" and no one can enter or leave its campus at this time.
McLaren Central Hospital is also under lockdown and the Mount Pleasant Police and Isabella County Office are assisting in the crisis.
The City of Flint's Office of Alcohol, Tobacco and Explosives (ATF), reported in a tweet that it had dispatched a unit to investigate the shooting.
The academic institution - which is located about two hours from Detroit - welcomes about 20,000 students. The shooting near by comes two weeks after Nikolas Cruz, also 19, entered a school in Parkland, Florida, to blind 17 people with a high-powered rifle.
