A California jury found a woman babysitting guilty of beating a 4-month-old Hispanic baby to the beatings.
Following this guilty verdict released on Wednesday , Brittany Ann Ingrassi could be sentenced by the judge to a sentence of between 25 years in prison and life in prison.
According to the prosecution, the 31-year-old woman repeatedly beat little Aiden López on March 22, 2016 while in her care at the baby's family home.
When the creature's mother returned home that afternoon, Ingrassi was waiting for her outside the home and told her that the boy had stopped breathing, according to court testimonies obtained by People.
"The mom proceeded to call 911 and the baby was taken to the local hospital with skull fractures and head trauma," the prosecutor said in a statement. Despite medical care, Aiden died four days later.
According to authorities, Ingrassi, who was a friend of the boy's father, was "unhappy as a babysitter" and "was under the influence of alcohol while caring for the victim."
At the trial, the defendant's defense argued that the injuries to the boy's body had been caused by the French bulldog who was the family's pet.
The charges she was found guilty of include second-degree murder, child assault resulting in coma, child abuse and child assault resulting in death.
