Marisa W. Harris, a resident of Olney, Maryland, was driving on Interstate I-66 and was approaching the Nutley Street exit when a child jumped and fell into her Ford Escape SUV truck under a bridge.

According to a press release obtained by People, the woman was accompanied by another 23-year-old passenger who, after what happened, seized the steering wheel to prevent the car from crashing into the highway median.

The woman died at the scene and her traveling companion was uninjured. For her part, the young man who had jumped was rushed to the Fairfax Inova hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

According to Corine Geller, a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, Harris died from the impact of the coup. Now the incident is officially investigated as a suicide attempt.

The victim was studying at Marymount University in Maryland, where she was seeking to graduate as a clinical counselor and had obtained her bachelor's degree with the sum cun laude from Towson University, also in Maryland, according to the Washington Post.

"She really cared [and] adored the children," Leigh Miller, mother of the deceased, told the aforementioned newspaper. "That is the irony we see now," said the father, Patrick Harris. “She was not afraid, she was brave. Her friends loved her, she was deeply loved by her family, admired by her colleagues, she was simply a brilliant star.”
