The Pope Francisco has become a media priest. The Holy Father has reached 40 million followers - in nine languages - on his Twitter account, the Vatican reported.

The pope's Twitter address, @Pontifex, has ensured that the Supreme Pontiff can communicate directly with his parishioners, indicates CNN. Many still remember his first tweet in which he asked Catholics to pray for him. "Dear friends, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I beg you to continue praying for me," Pope Francis published on Twitter when he became the leader of Catholics. A closer pope who has direct contact with his people, that's why more than 40 million follow him.

"The figure is significant, not in itself, but because of what it represents for the Holy Father himself, who, like his predecessor, wishes to be a Christian witness among many on the 'digital continent', especially through social media" read the digital portal Radio Vaticana.

This account had been deactivated by the Holy See, after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI on February 13, 2013 in his charge. However, given the election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio as the new pope of the Catholic Church in March, the Vatican chose to grant him the account. An interesting fact is that Pope Francis' account is not in two or three languages, but in nine: English, Spanish, Italian, French, Polish, German, Portuguese, Arabic, and Latin. ACI Prensa indicates that one year after the accounts were created in the various languages, they managed to exceed 10 million followers.
