Man Strangles His 2 Children And Commits Suicide

A 33-year-old man strangled his two young children before setting fire to his home and killing himself while his wife slept.

The events happened this Tuesday around 3:00 am in the northeast area of the town of Bloomington, in Illinois and were discovered thanks to the fact that the woman managed to escape from the house and asked the neighbors for help to call 911.

Authorities reported that Eric N. Ringenberg caused the fire in the house located at 14 Brittany Court. Three bodies were found in the basement of the house: that of Ringenberg and that of the two minors; a newborn and a 2-year-old whose names were not disclosed.

Pamela Ringenberg, wife of the alleged killer, was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center where she was declared "stable" on Tuesday, according to the NPR GLT affiliate in Illinois.

According to police sources, the woman woke up to hear the fire alarm located near her room. "[The mother] frantically searched for her family members but couldn't find them," she told herself.

Ringenberg tried to locate his phone without success, as according to police the husband had hidden it. Enduring the inhalation of smoke, the mother left the house to ask for help.

Home security videos showed that the man went into hiding the family's cell phones before the fact.

On the other hand, it was reported that this Tuesday an autopsy was performed on both children, which showed that they died strangled. The father, police reported, died of suicide.

According to his Linkedin profile, Ringenberg worked at the State Farm insurance company and studied at Lincoln College.
