The landmark Paris Agreement, a world-class ecological action plan outlining guidelines for fighting global warming, could receive a major snub with the possible withdrawal of the United States among its signatories.
As reported by CNN, it is almost imminent that US President Donald Trump turns his back on this agreement in what would be a major "break with international allies that would isolate the United States in global efforts to stop climate change."
On Wednesday through his favorite social network, Twitter, Trump indicated that in the coming days he will announce his decision in this regard. Nearby sources told the news network that everything seems to indicate that the president will withdraw his country from the agreement. However, the mechanism for this withdrawal is unknown.
If such a measure is confirmed, it would put the United States at odds with virtually every country on the planet. But what is worse: other countries could follow in her footsteps. Only two other countries have refused to sign the document that was drawn up in the French capital: Syria and Nicaragua, which insist that the measures of the agreement are not strict enough.
The Paris Agreement is a document of good will, as it does not impose sanctions or penalties on those who violate its guidelines. Signed by 196 countries in 2015, its objective is the slowdown in global warming, for which it asks the countries responsible for 55 percent of greenhouse gas emissions to reduce them - which would help to better control the rise. of world temperatures.
