Mario Moreno Ivanova, the only son of the beloved Mexican actor Cantinflas, died at the age of 57 in the early hours of Monday due to a heart attack.

The news of his death was revealed through the Facebook account of Emilio Morales Valentín, his public relationist. “Friends, unfortunately it is true. Mario Moreno Ivanova died this morning, the victim of a sudden heart attack at his home in Mexico City … I am with his widow, Mrs. Tita Marbez on matters of paperwork. Later I will let you know where and at what time the funeral will be,”reads the message published by Morales.

Although Mario was adopted, he became the only son Cantinflas had with his wife Valentina Ivanova Zubareff, who died in Mexico City in 1966 when Moreno Ivanova was just a boy.

The life of the legendary comedian's son was surrounded by several family controversies. In 2012, his own son, Mario Moreno Bernat, filed a lawsuit against him, alleging physical and psychological abuse from his father, whom he blamed for inciting him to consume alcohol and drugs when he was just a child. Shortly after the controversial, headline-grabbing case was unveiled, Moreno Bernat, 22, took his life on June 24, 2013 at a hotel in the state of Mexico.

Shortly after the lawsuit of his son, Sandra Bernat, his ex-wife, also started a legal lawsuit against Moreno Ivanova, revealing that during his time as a partner of Cantinflas's son he was a constant victim of physical scourges.
