An Ohio babysitter was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of an 8-month-old baby who was given an overdose of Benadryl.

The little boy, Haddix Mulkey, died in May 2016 after ingesting a lethal dose of Benadryl for adults. The babysitter Lori Conley pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence, among other charges, according to the prosecution.

Reynoldsburg, Ohio police said the 43-year-old woman admitted to giving him the medication because Haddix was restless, misbehaving and wanted to calm him down.

According to ABC, Conley was caring for eight other children under the age of 6 at his home the day Haddix died.

The babysitter was jailed after being charged with the boy's death and was given bail of $ 750,000.

"All I hope for is a heart that loves and forgives," Katie Mulkey, the baby's mother, told ABC last June. "No mother should go through. It is something that should never have happened.”

Benadryl is one of the best-selling antihistamines or allergy medications in the United States. It should only be administered to children under 2 years of age with medical consent and an age-appropriate dose. In this case, Haddix had no symptoms that required giving him this medicine, according to police.

The family has launched a Go Fund Me account in honor of the baby.
