Luis Romero Does Not Go To His Son's Funeral

His name is Luis Lucho Romero and he is a former Uruguayan soccer player who played in the Cagliari of the Italian League in 1996 and 1997. Although he achieved sports fame in his country for having been a key player in Peñarol, one of the most prestigious Uruguayan teams. His ability as a header was what led him to be hired by the Italian team.

Romero had a 7-year relationship with Alexandra Pérez, with whom he had Felipe Romero, the 10-year-old boy whose murder at the hands of his coach Fernando Sierra has shocked the South American country.

According to Pérez, the footballer was always an absent father and at the boy's funeral he sent a warning message to the other parents. "Please be present with your children! Otherwise the children will look for another father figure … For the worse, my son ran into this murderer," said the hurt mother.

After remaining silent after the tragedy, the footballer finally spoke to journalist Alberto Pérez on the radio program Las voces del futbol. There he took the opportunity to confess that he is "devastated" by the murder of his son.

However, he made it clear that he did not know well what happened or was aware of Felipe's relationship with Sierra, who - according to him - never inspired him confidence because when he met him he felt a "strange feeling".

Felipe died at the hands of Sierra, who was his coach for some time at a club in Uruguay. The coach became friends with the family and took an almost parental role in relation to the boy.

Following the advice of a therapist, the mother asked the coach to stay away from her son. That unleashed Sierra to kidnap the little boy and murder him with a bullet, and then kill himself.

According to the preliminary results of the autopsy, the boy was sexually abused on several occasions.
