Being a journalist in Mexico is a high risk profession. This March proved it tragically.
The journalist Miroslava Breach, a correspondent for the Mexican newspapers La Jornada and Norte de Juárez, was executed on Thursday, March 23. at 54 and after 22 years of profession.
The informant was shot to death as she left her home at 6:53 am local time in the Las Granjas neighborhood of Chihuahua state. She was aboard a red SUV and was preparing to drop her son off at school.
Last Monday, the tragic turn had been for the communicator Ricardo Monlui Córdova, who was president of the Association of Journalists and Graphic Reporters of Córdoba and the AC Region. The journalist was shot down when he and his family left a restaurant in the municipality of Yanga, Veracruz. His wife was wounded in the attack.
The month had started with blood with the murder on March 2 of Cecilio Pineda, a journalist from the state of Guerrero.
With these three deaths, there are 30 communicators killed in the mandate of President Enrique Peña Nieto, in whom the endless violence that Mexico suffers has not been brought to an end.
As reported by press associations, the vast majority of murders of journalists go unpunished.
