The small town of St. Charles, in Illinois, was shaken this weekend with the shocking death of two 16-year-old twins and their 48-year-old father, who apparently killed them and then committed suicide.

According to the AP agency, the events occurred on Friday around 5:00 pm local time. Randall Coffland called 911 to report that he had shot both his daughters and his wife. A second call issued by the spouse, Anjum Coffland, confirmed the shooting.

When authorities arrived at the apartment, located on South First Street, they found the lifeless bodies of the twins Brittany and Tiffany Coffland with a shot to the head. In the body of the father they found one of the two weapons that were located in the apartment.

The children's mother was found with gunshot wounds to the legs and transported to the local Delnor hospital in the town of Geneva, where she is now recovering.

The deputy chief of police, David Kintz, revealed that the mother of the minors did not live in the apartment and that it was unknown why she went to the said apartment that afternoon.

The police had answered a call for domestic problems on February 9, but no one was arrested on that occasion and no one was injured.

Tiffany absolutely lit up the place with her smile. Your personality. She was an amazing young lady,” Ally Siebrasse, a young girl who was studying with victims at St. Charles East High School high school, told WGNTV local station. Regarding her twin sister, Brittany, the girl assured that she was "with a good heart."

The motives for the shooting are unknown, but it was revealed that the Coffland had permission to carry weapons.
