Ohio parents are under investigation after cocaine was found in the body of their 8-year-old son.

Police found the unconscious little boy in his parents' home in the town of Berea and quickly transferred him to the hospital, where he was ordered to save his life. He now lives with his grandparents, according to the Cleveland local news channel WKYC.

The boy's parents, Charles Dowdy and Danielle Simko, both 31, appeared in court Wednesday to face drug possession charges and endanger the life of a minor. The couple, who have pleaded not guilty, are being held in the Cuyahogaajo prison.

According to a police report obtained by People, Dowdy called 911 on January 11 when he noticed that his son had blue lips. The call was made around 10:30 p.m. and, according to the document, the boy was unable to breathe.

Agent Kevin Burke found the little boy lying on the living room floor of the house, where his father was squeezing his chest trying to make him breathe. Police noted that the boy still had a pulse and was rushed to the Southwest General Hospital.

Hospital staff found a bag of heroin and pills hidden in the boy's sock, according to Cleveland.com.

Also, according to WKYC, a urinalysis revealed that the boy had heroin in his body. Drugs and syringes were also found in the parents' home, the police report said, although it is not yet known how the drug entered the minor's system.

The case remains under investigation.
