As if Katy Perry was n't busy enough, the pop singer prepares to launch her first line of shoes, the Katy Perry Collection, which will hit katyperrycollections.com on February 16.
"I've been thinking about this idea for several years now," the singer told PEOPLE. “Since the middle of my career people have been asking me when am I going to dive into the world of fashion. It had always been something in my head but I wanted to do it well and contribute creatively in a real way. It is something that has been created out of nothing.”
And he has done it in a big way. His first collection is huge - 40 pieces in all! - and there is a mini capsule collection that includes a Havana-inspired shoe called The Cleo (above), a platform of
The AW, a patent leather shoe with a heel decorated with a tie-dye of a classic shoe but with a twist in terms of material”.
However, it's only a small amount of the line, Perry says. "I have a lot more normal friends than famous friends, and that's probably a good thing," she says.
One of your favorites? The Shannon, a flat flush shoe in vintage stores,”said Perry. “I once found some flats that looked like Dalmatians. They had ears that moved and a tongue that stuck out. They were shoes that could become a topic of conversation.”
"That's what's so amazing about fashion," she said. “It is a form of communication. You don't have to start smoking to start talking to someone. You can just wear cool shoes. They break the ice."
