Just when Instagram thought they stole the show with “Stories,” Snapchat is teaming up with NBC Universal to produce original episodic programming for some of your favorite shows, reported Variety.
Programs like Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon will be a part of the mobile video plans. The Voice will also be joining in with a five part series debuting on August 22. Judges Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton will be judging videos submitted by Snapchat users to potentially appear on the show.
That's not all. AND! News will also begin to air a pop culture weekly series on the app starting September 8 called The Rundown.
"NBCUniversal is committed to tapping into its talent, resources and reach to be the leader in delivering mobile-first premium content," said Ron Lamprecht, NBCU's executive VP of business development and digital distribution. "From entertainment to news and sports, NBCUniversal has an unparalleled lineup and Snapchat is the perfect partner to help us reach millions of fans where they are every day."
The deal comes in as an effort to attract younger audiences who are increasingly ditching cable service for online media.
“Together with NBCUniversal, we believe there is a huge creative and commercial opportunity around mobile-first programming and are excited to bring these future formats to our community,” said Nick Bell, VP of content at Snapchat.
