When Beyoncé released her album “Lemonade” earlier this year, one single lyric in her song “Sorry” got us all talking.
It was of course the lyric “Becky with the good hair,” which set the Internet on fire and so started the speculations that there was trouble in paradise: Was Jay-Z cheating on Queen B? Who was this so called "Becky?"
Well, wonder no more, as the identity of Becky has been revealed.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the lead songwriter of "Sorry," Diana Gordon, explained that Becky is actually nobody. You read correctly: nobody. Becky simply does not exist.
I laughed, like this is so silly. Where are we living? I was like, 'What day in age from that lyric do you get all of this information?' Is it really telling you all that much, accusing people?” said Gordon in regards to seeing the controversy unfold.
She also admitted it was entertaining saying, “The idea started in my mind but it's not mine anymore. It was very funny and amusing to me to watch it spread over the world.”
She went on to explain that Beyoncé probably did not anticipate such strong reactions to the lyric. Not. I don't think she expected it,”said Gordon. “I saw her at her Formation tour. She had a pajama party; we laughed, we dance, we hugged it out. But I didn't say much about it at the time because I wanted to give her space,”she shared.
So good news for all the Beckys out there. There is no longer a need to fear the #Beyhive.
